The Armourer’s Bench talks about British SUSAT Combat Gunsight for the L85 bullpup rifle. It was a good optic from the 1970s that has a very wide 10 degree field of view and a fast obelisk reticle with tritium illumination. However, it’s big and heavy with poor eye relief, and it uses funky external adjustment.
The British military is replacing all the SUSAT sight with a special version of the ELCAN OS x4 (you can see our review of it here) on their L85 bullpup rifle. Due to that, now the SUSAT is available in the surplus market! In the USA, MarColMar Firearm has it for $400 here. I was told that their samples are in beautiful grade “A” condition, although I think the tritium is probably dead or near dead at this point. The video above shows how to replace the tritium tube for $5-$10.

MarColMar Firearms is working on a machined rail for it to mount the SUSAT on their limited run of CETME L rifle. A small number of the SUSAT sight were used by the Spanish Marines and Navy with their CETME L rifle before it was replaced by the H&K G36 rifle. Please check with MarColMar on their progress with the CETME L mount.
