SHOT Show Optics: Stenier R1X and R1X-L big window reflex sights
SHOT Show 2017, Steiner Optics will be release their new R1X series of big window reflex sights. There will be two models: the R1X and the R1X-L, which has the addition of a right side piggyback mounted laser designator module. Please noted that Steiner Optics is a subsidiary of Beretta USA.
The Steiner R1X is targeting the market vacuum left behind by EOTech. The sight features a large viewing window and it has easy to use digital control on the left side. The right side of the R1X is covered up with a thick plate and secured by four bolts. The space is reserve for the add-on laser designator module. The sight will be available in both the simple screw mount and the QD mount for $58 more.
From the press release, the Steiner R1X has a switchable reticle that could be set to either a single red dot or a 3-dot stadia, which I am assuming the later could be use for holdover for distance shooting. The R1X is powered by 2x common CR2032 coin-size lithium batteries. Although the sight will function with just one of the CR2032, I think the unusual dual-battery arrangement is for extending the battery life. There’s no mention on the run-time with either battery configuration.
The R1X-L model with the laser designator module installed on the right side. There’s a control wire plug into it in the front, and that’s probably for the remote activation switch. The laser module itself seems to be custom built for the R1X-L since it doesn’t resemble any of the Laser Devices model in production. From the photo, the outputs is red visible laser.
Close up of the laser module on the Steiner R1X-L. Since it’s a piggy-back solution, laser module has to contain its own power source in the form of a CR123 lithium battery. The external zeroing adjustment turrets are near the lens in the front, and it has a 1/4 MOA per-click zero adjustment for both windage and elevation with a total 25 MOA, just like the sight.
Steiner R1X Specification:

$688.99 w/QD mount | |

No spec on the Steiner R1X-L have release yet. I would guess the MSRP will be probably double since the Steiner/Laser Devices OTAL-C, which looks closest to the R1X-L’s laser module spec wise, has a MSRP of $609.99.
The listed weight of 19.4 oz is probably for the R1X-L model. I know that big window reflex sights are usually heavier, but not that heavy. However, the weight seems to be about right with an installed metal housing laser module that should weight 5-6 oz with battery.
