Meopta Sport Optics USA launched their new Optika 6x magnification line just before SHOT Show 2019. Since I had previously reviewed their 1-4x22mm and 1-6x24mm, I was most interested in the new mid-range Optika 1-6x24mm. The price will be starting at $499 with Meopta’s self-illuminating Dichroic reticle, and $699 for the battery-powered daylight visible illuminated models with digital power system.
Here’s a cleaner image of the Optika 1-6×24 from the Meopta press kit. The SHOT samples that I saw were missing the blue ring, which seems to be the signature mark of the Optika line. I was told by the Meopta staff that they only received the prototype samples just before SHOT Show 2019. The heavy textures on the zoom ring and the turret caps are rubber overmolds. It feels great and also acts like a rubber bumper to help protect the caps. The detachable zoom ring throw lever is included with each Optika scope.
The new Meopta Optika 1-6×24 has a true 1x at the low end. It has the same field-of-view (FOV) at 1x as the MeoTac 1-4×22 at 108 ft at 100 yds, but at bit less than the top of the line Meostar 1-6×24’s 113 ft FOV at that distance. At the 6x magnification, again, Optika 1-6×24 has slightly less FOV at 17.7 ft compared to the MeoStar 1-6×24’s 19 ft FOV at 100 yards. Overall, not bad for half the cost of the MeoStar.
All of the Optika models will be built in the Czech Republic and will be available starting in the summer of 2019. No word on what glass its lens are made from, but I hope it will be the same German Schott glass that Meopta has been using in all of their optics.
Weights in at 18.8 ounce, the Optika 1-6×24 is no lightweight as it’s a 1.5 oz heavier than the high end MeoStar 1-6×24. However, at just 10.6 inch length, the Optika is nearly a inch shorter than the Meostar model.
As for reticle option, the self-illuminated Dichroic reticle model will have the 4C reticle, which is a German #4 with wide opened center crosshair. The battery illuminated models will have the KDot 2 reticle for hunting, and the BDC3 reticle with holdovers up to 500 yards plus wind correction marks for 10mph crosswind. There maybe more reticle options available in the future.
In addition to the 1-6×24 models, the new Meopta Optika line also has the larger 2.5-15×44, 3-18×50, 4.5-27×56 and 5-30×56 models. The last three of those will have both first focal plane and 2nd focal plane reticle options.
