Preview: EOTech Vudu 1-6x24mm Tactical Scope
In fall 2016, EOTech will be releasing their new line of conventional scope for the tactical market. Named the Vudu series, the three new optics from EOTech are the 1-6x24mm carbine model, the 2.5-10x44mm medium range model and the 3.5-18x50mm long range model.
The new EOTech Vudu 1-6x24mm will be made in Japan as with the other two models. In light of their recent controversy and recall of their Holographic sights, the new Vudu series has nothing to do with that. In fact, EOTech actually had been developing the Vudu scope for the pass three years.
The best feature of the new EOTech Vudu 1-6x24mm will be its signature EOTech Speed-Ring reticle. The first focal plane reticle has daylight visible illumination with a digital power management system. The reticle showing in the picture is the SR-1 reticle with a crosshair in the center.
This is how the reticle looks like at 1x. The EOTech Vudu 1-6x24mm has a true 1x at the low-end. Unlike the Holographic sights, all the Vudu scopes have an etched reticle that will function just fine even without battery.
At the 3x middle magnification. The Speed-Ring reticle became bigger and the center dot had changed to a small circle-dot with couple of BDC hashmarks. The reticle shown in this image is the SR-x reticle with the BDC for a specific caliber.
At the 6x magnification. The outer Speed-Ring had completely disappeared and only the center circle-dot with BDC marks are visible. EOTech will be offering two BDC reticle options for the Vudu 16x24mm model. One for the 5.56mm caliber (SR-2) and the other for the 7.62mm caliber (SR-3).
The illumination control is the push buttons on left side turret, which also houses the CR2032 lithium battery inside. Scopes in Vudu series all use the smaller 30mm tube size. On the Vudu 1-6x24mm model, the cat-tail is user removable. I would prefer a shorter version or a shark-fin shaped one for those of us that are not 3-gun competitor.
On the display models that I have checked out, EOTech Vudu 1-6x24mm model’s eyebox seems to be very good. I also like the low-profile adjustment turrets. However, I hope EOTech could impermanent some type of locking mechanism on those adjustment turrets on the final production version.
