Tactical Rx is a lens making company owned by Brett Hunter, his skill at making safety lenses on upscale popular frames with distortion free prescription correction thru the curve is phenomenal. This is a new way of cutting lenses perfected by Brett.
I met Brett at the Big 3 Media event and was immediately struck by how crystal clear his lenses were. I tried several of his frames with lenses and even tho they were not the same prescription as what I wear I could tell they were the best lenses I had seen in glasses yet to date. Having worn glasses the vast majority of my life I know good and bad lens design and clarity. Looking through the selection I chose a set of Randolph frames with yellow tinted lenses for shooting.
For the last twenty plus years, I have chosen to wear contacts as I grew to despise glasses. Over the course of the twenty years there have been times I have needed to switch to regular glasses. For me there is always an adjustment period after the switch to glasses involving slight vertigo and loss of fine detail vision.
On the first switch to Brett’s wonder glasses the nastiness of the after affects were much reduced, very much so. Being shooting glasses they were set up to see the sights very clear, and do they ever work, but they wash out up close fine vision in my right eye. That was expected since my preference is to shoot righty, but my up close in the left eye is spot on. The vision is clear all the way out to the edges of the lenses with no perceptible distortion. I noticed that even in the wrap around sunglass type lenses there was no distortion thru the hard curve of the lens. A friend has a pair of wraparound lenses and even tho the script isn’t the same as mine it was smooth and clean through the curve. That is something I have never seen in a lens.
Even tho I tend to favor contacts I carry glasses in my every day carry bag in case I need to remove my contacts. I have had this happen on several occasions and it allowed me to drive home safely. Now I think I need to have a pair of these glasses as a back up in my get the hell out of dodge bag. Two is one and one is none. It never seems to fail that if I am half ass prepared it bites right where it hurts. It seems the moment I don’t have them it is an open invitation to violate my eyes. I have noticed that as I have gotten older that I am not nearly as hard on my gear as I used to be, but Murphy still likes to haunt my shadow now and again. I do believe I will have Mr. Hunter make me a set of wrap around transitional glasses as the price is comparable to regular lenses and the quality is much higher.
It gives me much comfort to know that they will stop a 12 gauge shooting 4 buck steel shot at 15 feet. Not that I plan on getting blazed in the face but in the event of accidents the likelihood of losing your eyesight are greatly reduced. To me my eyesight is precious and worth protecting. Do yourself a service and look into Tactical RX. Be ready, be prepared and stay alive.
